Bioheat® Fuel – what is it and how can we use it to achieve net-zero carbon emissions? Simply put, Bioheat® Fuel is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional heating oils. Bioheat® Fuel is made by creating a special blend of biodiesel and ultra-low sulfur heating oil. Biodiesel, a key component in the blend, is created from a variety of renewable resources, greatly reducing the impact on the environment. Currently, there are a variety of different blends of Bioheat® Fuel available. Blends using 2% to 5% biodiesel are called B2-B5 and referred to as Bioheat®. Blends that use 6% to 20% biodiesel (B6 to B20) are referred to as Bioheat Plus®. Blends that have greater than 20% biodiesel (B21 to B100) are referred to as Bioheat SuperPlus®. The heating oil industry is continuously creating new standards, with an industry-wide commitment to achieving 15% carbon reductions by 2023, moving to 40% reductions by 2030, and going fully net-zero by 2050.
